PACG encourages everyone to attend the *2008 Earth Charter Summit being
presented by the Congregation of the Humility of Mary of Davenport with PACG
serving as a partner presenter*. Our own Cathy Bolkcom, one of the founders
of PACG, will give an address on social and economic justice and how these
issues and war affect our planet...mark you calendars now and get registered
early. "No Impact Man" , a nationally known environmentalist will be
here!! Read on.....
*You are invited!*
2008 has been named the United Nations' *Year of Planet Earth* – an
appropriate time to emphasize the Earth Charter's role in addressing climate
change and its effects. Join us for a day of exploring facts and
possibilities. Generate hope for the future and energy to make a difference
at the Quad City Earth Charter Summit.
*The QC Earth Charter Summit will be held on October 11, 2008 at the River
Center in downtown Davenport, Iowa, from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm*. In addition to
presentations and displays by local groups and individuals, we are
privileged and excited to be featuring from New York City, " No Impact Man"
aka Colin Beavan (visit his blog at www.noimpact.com) and from the
University of Iowa, renowned environmentalist Professor Jerald Schnoor. Cost
is just $20 per person and includes lunch. Seating is limited so early
registration is suggested.
Plan to attend! Additional details about the summit and participants can be
found at www.qcearthcharter.org where registration brochures can be
downloaded. It's easy to register - simply fill out the form in the brochure
and mail. Please consider forwarding this information to your contact lists
and include the summit in your organization's calendar of events. We are
conserving paper by sending this to you electronically! I will also be happy
to mail brochures per request.
The Earth Charter is an international agreement incorporating the following
principles: respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice and
a culture of peace. It seeks to inspire a sense of global interdependence
and shared responsibility for the well being of the human family and the
larger living world and is not aligned with or owned by a particular
political party, religion or socio-economic group. The major consideration
is quality of life for all.
The Summit is presented by the *Congregation of the Humility of Mary* whose
mission statement reads,
*"We commit ourselves to work for justice within the human family and to
care for the earth itself."*
Thank you for your consideration and I hope to see you at the summit on
October 11th. Feel free to call or email if you have questions.
