*From Anne Grove at World Relief:*

For those of us who care about Iraqi people displaced by the war, having
lost homes, educational opportunities, loved ones, jobs, etc. . . .an
opportunity to help at least one family has developed. I'm wondering who
might want to be part of it? *This small family (husband, wife and toddler)
fled from **Iraq** to Syria.* We believe both adults speak some English, as
well as Arabic, and he was taught to be a math &/or science teacher, but
doesn't appear to have had the chance to work in his field. Their faith
preference is listed as Sunni Moslem. While we don't know much, we do know
they didn't have any friends or family in the United States available to
invite them to join them. And *we know they're due to arrive here in the
Quad Cities on May 7th.*

Initial experiences with Iraqi arrivals suggest many have high expectations
and may have had very nice lifestyles before the war, or before they became
an interpreter for or helper to the United States. They will need friends,
and those friends will likely need patience, ingenuity, respect for the role
of faith traditions in helping people cope with change, and the enthusiasm
for living that help keep hope alive for these . The good news is that when
they come out on the other side of the initial experience, they will likely
have a great deal to share with us all.

*We're seeking a welcoming team* who can help us find affordable and safe
housing for them, who will greet them at the airport on the 7th, and who
will walk beside them as they face new experiences.

*If you're interested in helping, have questions, or have household items to
donate to the family, please let us know. Tlaffoon at wr.org and/or
agrove at wr.org is the best way to reach us by email, or 309-764-2279 by
phone. * Free training is provided for new volunteers, and it isn't a
lifetime commitment; but for many, it IS a life altering commitment.
Hope to hear from you!
