*From American Friends Services Committee:*
*The war in Iraq is costing us $720 Million every day.*
This Tax Day, April 15, Congress will consider continuing funding
the war in Iraq and cutting funding to human needs programs. With the
economy getting worse, itʼs urgent that Congress choose the right
priorities now.
*Join our nationwide call today!* *Ask Congress to defund the war
in Iraq and boost funding for vital services such as food stamps,
unemployment benefits, and Medicaid.*
Use the AFSC toll-free number to be connected to your Senatorsʼ and
Representativeʼs offices. Itʼs easy. Hereʼs how.
*Call the Capitol Hill switchboard at 1-800-473-6711.*
Ask for the office of Congressman Braley or Congressman Hare.
Tell the person who answers your name and town:
• Iʼm calling to ask that you defund the war in Iraq and refund human needs
at
home and in Iraq.
• Each day that the U.S. continues to occupy Iraq adds $720 million to the
cost of this war, in addition to the terrible human cost. With a looming
recession, we need Congress to spend our money wisely.
• Please tell Representative ____ to vote for a budget resolution and an
economic stimulus plan that increases funding for human needs programs.
Vote for more money for food stamps, Medicaid, unemployment benefits,
and aid to the states to help people meet basic needs and rebuild the
economy.
• Please tell the representative to also vote for funding to meet the basic
needs of Iraqis and Iraqi refugees, not continued occupation. Meeting
these needs is a key step toward ending the violence and bringing about
reconciliation in Iraq. Itʼs time to bring all the troops home now, with no
permanent bases left in the country."
Thanks,
Cathy Bolkcom
*"Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and
try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work:
you don't give up." Annie Lamott*
*"The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined
nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood."
