A Job Well Done! Hard work and persistence pay off. Today the Iowa House
voted 53-45 in favor of the conference committee bill which made all
non-hospitality worksites, restaurants, and bars smokefree as of July 1,
2008. Only the gaming floors and wagering areas of casinos and the Veterans
Home are exempt. Although this bill means that 10,000 casino workers will
still be exposed to secondhand smoke, it is a Big step forward and we are
determined to come back next year and protect them as well.
The Senate took their vote around 6 p.m. and passed the bill by 28-22.
I do not have the names of the Senators who voted yes yet, but please take
time to thank the following Representatives who voted to protect the health
of workers.
