*The Illusion of Race – The Power of Racism*


The Multicultural Ministry Task Force of the Illowa Lutheran Coalition will
present this
*Anti-racism Workshop on April 26, 2008 from 9:30 – 3:30 at St. John's
Lutheran Church 4501  7th Ave., Rock Island .*  Registration is from 9:00 –
9:30.



The workshop will utilize interactive activities, video input, and group
discussion to help us understand the meaning and power of racism in our
society and institutions.  It will also illustrate and suggest some
resources that can by used in congregations or other groups to help people
understand and deal with this issue.



Some have felt that the idea of anti-racism has a negative connotation.  Of
course it does, because it seeks to confront and destroy the power of racism
and prejudice that infects our lives, our society.  When we are sick we
welcome a prescription of anti-biotics to destroy the infection that
disables us.   We are also thankful that there are people working on
strategies of anti-terrorism in these days when terrorists threaten the
safety and stability of human life and society.



Racism is a powerful reality in our world. It infects individuals and
institutions and encourages us to oppress and marginalize people who are
different from ourselves.  It works against God's will for justice, peace
and unity in the human family.  Anti-racism seeks to destroy that power and
affirm the worth and dignity of all people. We need to understand the roots
and power of racism and to be intentionally anti-racist in order to do God's
work in our world.

participate in this workshop.  Please call the Illowa Lutheran Coalition
office at 794-4000 with an estimate of the number of participants expected
to attend by *Monday, April 21* to help plan for the lunch, materials and
