*Roger Butts extends a enthusiastic invitation to all to attend a very
special event on September 11. A nationally renownded msuicain will perform
a concert at the Unitarian Church...details below... *

*Richard Shindell, master singer-songwriter, will present a concert,
Tuesday, September 11 at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Church, Davenport (3707
Eastern Avenue, 563-359-0816). *

"Shindell is a master builder of songs, yet always leading listeners toward
the emotional essence of the moment or character he is evoking. As with all
master craftsmen, knowing what to leave out is as important to him as what
he puts in. Shindell has uncanny sense of the theater of a song, building
his ballads sparely and subtly, set to sweeping graceful melodies." SCOTT
ALARICK - The Boston Globe

Shindell is touring to support his album of cover songs called South of
Delia. *THe USA TODAY recently gave this album 4 stars out of 4 and said
about this album:* The expatriate folk singer gives voice to a dozen songs
narrated by the displaced and the uprooted, or those just overtaken by
wanderlust. Shindell does amazing things with Peter Gabriel's Mercy Street
and The Band's Acadian Driftwood, but some of his most insightful
performances come with older or lesser-known material, including Argentine
folk rocker Leon Gieco's Solo le Pido a Dios (I Only Ask of God) and
Scottish singer Harry Robertson's The Humpback Whale.

Rev. Roger Butts, minister at the Unitarian Church said that *he wanted to
bring in a storyteller for this September 11.* When he saw that Richard
Shindell was available, he jumped at the chance. "He tells stories through
his songs about the human condition. The poetry of seeing a nun changing a
tire on a New Jersey turnpike. The stockbroker looking for another rush.
What we remember, through Shindell's songs, are the small hopes, the daily
frustrations and what we find there are our common humanity."

*Tickets are $15 per person, $8 for students.*
