Dear Friends,
One of the programs sponsored by Churches United that has now been with us
for about 18 months is the 30 minute weekly radio show, *Faith Talks.*
During those months this show has addressed issues that often divide us with
the hope of providing insights instead of simply bumper sticker
understanding. Some of those topics have included a 2-part series on
reproductive choice, a 4-part series on Palestinian & Israeli relations,
acceptance between faith groups, and many more. The challenge for this
effort is finding the necessary income to cover the costs of production. In
that regard I would invite you to consider a contribution to Churches United
dedicated to Faith Talks.
Over the short history of this effort we have heard many people comment how
fortunate this area is to have a show like *Faith Talks.* One of the
Presidential campaigns working in our area has recently told us that they
were seeking a radio show dedicated to faith and public policy somewhere
with an Iowa audience and the only resource they discovered through the
entire state was *Faith Talks.*
A professor at Augustana told us, after being a guest on the show, "Faith
Talks provides the community with new ideas, food for thought, and valuable
perspectives on age-old human concerns."
The Head of the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities wrote us and said this
about Faith Talks, "The radio show, *Faith Talks*, has been a great asset to
our community."
The head of the production company that helps produce Faith Talks said this
about the show: "The message of *Faith Talk* isn't just the content of each
show it's the fact that it exists. A forum for faith based beliefs to
exchange ideas. A unifying solution in a time of great divisiveness."
A member of the Islamic community wrote with this to say, "I feel that this
unique and high quality program is a considerable asset to both the faith
community and the general public of the Quad Cities area. There is no other
program in our area that does this work in a truly interfaith manner,
reaching out into the broader faith community to discuss what is relevant
and pertinent to people in the Quad Cities area".
These and other comments have come from people who have heard the show
either as it is broadcast or over the web through our podcasting. Now we
need to find the financial support for the long term.
Can you make a donation to this effort to help continue through this year?
Can you possibly make a commitment of a regular donation to help keep *Faith
Talks* on the air throughout 2008? If you can do either or both of these
things please contact Ron Quay at rquay at churchesunited.net or mail your
donation and indication of a pledge for 2008 to Churches United, 630 9thStreet,
Rock Island, IL 61201. This support will see that *Faith Talks*, this
unique program exploring religion in the public arena, is alive for a long
time into the future.
Thanks,
*Ron Quay,*
