Friends,

It has been brought to my attention that "To Kill a Mockingbird" will be at
the Adler Theater tomorrow evening, Friday, October 19th, at 7pm. There is NO
CHARGE to attend - FREE and open to the public.

Consequently, the Social Justice Movie Night at the Unitarian Church will be
canceled tomorrow and rescheduled within the next couple of weeks. As you
may recall, we plan to show, "The Narrow Path." In addition, we have another
powerful documentary that we would like to share with you entitled, "The
Ghosts of Abu Graib," sponsored by the Muslim American Society (MAS), who is
active in social justice efforts across America. They are fortunate to have
acquired this documentary. Stay tuned to our website for updates.

Social Justice Movie Night

at the Adler:

To Kill a Mockingbird
This film is ranked at #34 out of the 100 best movies of all time by the
MPAA.

*To Kill a Mockingbird* is the tale of racial injustice and social morality
set in depression era Alabama. Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by
Harper Lee, and told through the eyes of a young girl, Scout Finch (Mary
Badham), it is a heart warming but very powerful story that remains resonant
in present day America with its advocacy of tolerance, justice, integrity,
and loving responsible parenthood. Gregory Peck plays Atticus Finch, a small
town lawyer and widower father of two, who defends a black man, Tom Robinson
(Brock Peters) wrongfully accused of the rape and assault of a young white
woman. His compassion and courage in the face of the town's rage win him the
admiration of his children, Scout and Jem (Philip Alford). As the kids
experience the realities of racial prejudice and irrational hatred, they
also learn to overcome their fear of a mysterious, mostly unseen, neighbor,
Boo Radley (Robert Duvall in his screen debut).

The actress Mary Badham who was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of
Scout will be there to give her insight, answer questions and reflect on how
this 45 year old movie about America 75 years ago remains as pertinent now
as it was then.

When: Friday Oct 19, 7:00 pm

Where: Adler Theater (downtown Davenport)
