*The Sisters of St. Francis of Clinton, Iowa and Pax Christi of
Clinton invite you to an afternoon with John Dear, priest, pastor and
peacemaker.*

An internationally known voice for peace and Christian nonviolence and
a Pax Christi USA Ambassador of Peace, Father John Dear, S.J. has
served as director of the Fellowship of Reconciliation, the largest
interfaith peace organization in the U.S.  He was a Red Cross
coordinator of chaplains at the Family Assistance Center at Ground
Zero in New York in the aftermath of September 11, 2001, counseling
thousands of relatives and rescue workers.

He has traveled the war zones of the world, been arrested over 75
times for peace, led Nobel Peace Prize laureates to Iraq, and given
thousands of lectures on peace around the world. He is the author of
25 books and countless articles (www.johndear.org).

John Dear currently works with Pax Christi New Mexico on a campaign to
disarm Los Alamos as well as writing a weekly column for the National
Catholic Reporter ( www.ncrcafe.org).


A new DVD about him, "The Narrow Path," released in 2007, is available

John Dear, whose career in active nonviolence is an example to all,
will help us lead us in following the path of nonviolence.

The Candian documentary film "Uganda Rising" will be shown at 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 9, in Room 1117, University Capitol Centre (aka Old Capitol
Mall), U of I campus. The film uncovers what has been called a "hidden war"
and brings it into clear view. Admission: $2 minimum donation.

The film showing is one in a series of events sponsored by the UI College of
Public Health's Global Health Club relating to GuluWalk 2007, which benefits
children of northern Uganda. The Iowa City GuluWalk will begin at 1:00 p.m.

The MOBILIZATION AGAINST WAR ON IRAQ (MAWI) is a loose coalition of
representatives from peace groups across Iowa who communicate with one
another and meet monthly to coordinate statewide peace and anti-war
activities.
This listserv for MAWI (ifp-state) is administered by Iowans For Peace
(IFP), a coalition of 20 eastern Iowa political,  religious, professional,
community, and student organizations.

Their book, *Playing for Paterno: One Coach, Two Eras: A Father and Son's
Personal Recollections of Playing for JoePa *details the familial experience
of playing for Penn State University's legendary coach, Joe Paterno.
