*Retain the Rain Kiosk Unveiling and Tour*

*When: *Thursday*, *November, 15 at 10 a.m.

*Where*: Quad City Botanical Center, 2525 Fourth Avenue, Rock Island.**

*What:* River Action is kicking off the "*Retain the Rain* Kiosk Tour" at
the

*Quad* City Botanical Center with the unveiling of the interactive kiosk.
The public is invited.

*Who: *River Action **

*Why: *River Action is taking the next step in its ongoing efforts to
educate the public on how to manage stormwater, protect the Mississippi
River and bring sustainable landscapes to the Quad Cities and RiverWay. The
*Retain the Rain* program has dozens of projects in the Quad City area and
also provides the public with "Six Simple Things You Can Do To Save The
Mississippi River," a 32 page *storm water management guidebook. The mobile,
interactive kiosk is the next step, touring the Quad Cities, with one month
stays at libraries, colleges, and museums. *

*How: *The kiosk's 19" touch screen allows users to see different projects
and scenarios, learning different ways to *Retain the Rain*. The kiosk
provides over 25 examples of *Retain the Rain *projects, including: rain
gardens, rain barrels, runnels, bioswales, green roofs, porous paving,
native plantings, and prairie restorations. The user will be able to see how
projects work and create his or her own project. The user simply chooses the
desired project from the eight options, inputs the project information and
the kiosk calculates how many gallons of rain water is retained.

*For example, if the user wanted to install a porous paving driveway, he/she
would enter how many projects he/she wanted to install, in this case one.
The user would also enter the dimensions of the project in square feet, for
example 2400 square feet is the square footage of 24'x100' driveway. For
this example the rain retained in a one inch rainfall, on a 24'x100' porous
paving driveway is 742 gallons. *

*The kiosk program will also be available on CD and on the Retain the
Rainwebsite at
www.riveraction.org.*
