Friends, please make an effort to attend this event if possible. A little
encouragement goes a long way!
>From Amy Logsdon, Iowa Citizens Action Network (ICAN):
I am contacting you to get involved a local "Change America Now" (
http://www.cancampaign.org/) campaign.
ICAN is working to raise awareness of the 4 issues in the CAN campaign
(Minimum wage, Rx prices, college affordability , and sustainable energy
policy) by having a press event at Rep Braley's Davenport office (209 West
Fourth Street -- Jim Nussle's old office) on Thursday, January 18th at 11:00
am to thank him for his votes for these policies.
We hope you will join local CAN partner organizations in your district in
signing a thank-you card with following text (subject to minor changes – but
this is the gist for sure) :
"Representative Braley;
Thank you to your commitment to the people of Iowa and for your votes in
favor of the Change America Now 100 Hours agenda.
· Make college affordable by cutting the student loan interest rate
in half
· Lower the cost of prescription drugs by requiring Medicare to use
its purchasing power to negotiate lower prices
· Repeal Oil Tax Breaks and *use that money for investment in
alternative energy*
· Raise the Minimum Wage to $7.25 per hour
Thank you for being a strong new voice for change the people of Iowa can
count on to support these important initiatives!"
We are looking for CAN partners to sign on to the thank you, as well as
public turn-out for the media event. Partners would be welcome to include a
statement in the press release and/or speak to the media as well. Thanks for
any help you can give! Please let me know when would be a good time to talk
with you about this. I am in today (Friday) until 6pm and then again on
Tuesday
In Solidarity,
Amy Logsdon
