*Phil Hare and the run up to war in Iran
*
I volunteered to present the 216 MoveOn petitions to Phil Hare's office on
Thursday the 13th at 3 PM. Phil has told me he is against Bush's warlike
overtures toward Iran. I am hoping he will take this opportunity to make a
public statement. There is a chance he will be there in person.

I know some of you have to work, but if you can possibly make it, I would
love to see you, and it would give a great impression to the rest of the
Quad Cities if we have a good crowd. If you think of anyone you could
invite, please bring them along. Also, I am making a couple of quick "No
War With Iran" signs. If you have a marker and piece of posterboard handy,
it would be great if you can make one, too.

I am thinking of having one of our older veterans deliver the petitions, if
he is willing. I think this will be a powerful statement that we Quad
Citians are strongly and actively keeping an eye on Bush and on our elected
representatives as well, (even though Phil has been in our court on this and
many other issues.)

Hope to see you Thursday.
Caryn

*In MOLINE*, Local Residents Tell Rep. HARE: Oppose Bush's March to War with
Iran

216 signatures delivered to Rep. HARE, urging him to affirm President Bush
has no congressional authority to attack Iran.

Recent intelligence shows Iran has no nuclear program— yet Bush has invoked
"World War III."

*[Quad Cities]—*On Thursday, December 13 at 3 pm, local residents, including
veterans and military families, will deliver a petition with 216 local
signatures to the office of Rep. Phil Hare, urging him to support
legislation opposing President Bush's march to war with Iran. They will also
meet with Hare's staff to present their concerns in person.]

Hundreds of similar events, organized by members of MoveOn.org Political
Action, a progressive advocacy organization, will take place around the
country this Thursday. Over 160,000 people nationwide signed MoveOn's
petition. Local residents are asking Hare to support House Joint Resolution
64, sponsored by Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii). The resolution makes it
clear that the 2002 authorization of force against Iraq doesn't give
President Bush the authority to attack Iran.

"Bush already led us into one disastrous war in Iraq; Americans don't need
another in Iran," said Caryn Unsicker of Silvis, a local mother whose son is
currently on his second deployment in Iraq. "President Bush has lost the
trust of the American people and the world. With our military stretched too
thin in Iraq and military experts advocating diplomacy, Congress needs to
make crystal clear that the president doesn't have congressional approval to
start another war in Iran."

Recent intelligence shows that Iran has no nuclear program—yet Bush has
invoked "World War III" while talking about Iran. A USA Today/Gallup Poll
shows that 73% of Americans oppose attacking Iran.

Excellent visuals. Voters, stacks of petitions, signs.
