Let's send Wal-Mart back to school on *Friday, August 9th at 2:30 P.M.* *We'll
be at the Wal-Mart store at 5811 Elmore Ave, Davenport, Iowa.*

We'll provide FREE "Send Wal-Mart Back to School" t-shirts. Just call me
(Sylvia) to let me know you're coming or just join us. We'll assign duties
once you arrive and have your t-shirts.

See you there!

It's that time again! As the Back to School season rolls around, so has the
time to remind Wal-Mart that they, too, need to go back to school because
their irresponsible corporate behavior has led to failing grades for their
treatment of workers, children, and taxpayers.

Wal-Mart's long record of irresponsibility proves why Wal-Mart needs to go
back to school. Here are the facts:

* Child Labor: In 2006, Wal-Mart paid $31,680 in penalties for violations of
child labor laws. The violations occurred even after Wal-Mart agreed to pay
$135,540 in 2005 to settle federal charges that it broke child labor laws.

* Poor Health Care: Fewer than half of Wal-Mart's workers are covered by the
company's health care plan. Wal-Mart cost taxpayers an estimated $1.37
billion in 2005 in public health care and may cost taxpayers $9.1 billion
from 2006 to 2011. Every tax dollar that goes to Wal-Mart is a tax dollar
that could buy textbooks, repair schools, and help children learn.

* Gender Discrimination: Over 2 million women workers are suing Wal-Mart for
gender discrimination – the largest lawsuit of its kind in U.S. history.

* Inequity: Wal-Mart pays workers poverty level wages. At 34 hours per week
(full-time at Wal-Mart), the average full-time Wal-Mart associate earns
$18,582 per year, $2000 below the poverty-line for a family of four. In
fact, the average full-time Wal-Mart worker would have to work 1000 years to
earn what CEO Lee Scott did in one year.

* Taxes: Wal-Mart filed an appeal with the State of Iowa Property Assessment
Appeal Board asking for a hearing on their assessed valuation of their Iowa
City store. It is estimated that the area would lose about $63,296 in the
tax rolls to the county, city and school district.
