As Kick-Off to Cover the Uninsured Week...
The PACG Health Care Reform forum has organized a press conference, film,
discussion and citizen-action TONIGHT at 6:30pm in order to raise awareness
and advocate on behalf of those who are unisured and to continue pushing
this issue to the fore. As you will see in the featured film, lives are
literally hanging in the balance as a result of the cuts to the TennCare
program in Tennessee.
Please lend your support to raising awareness about this issue. We know that
18,000 people die in this country every year due to lack of access to
healthcare. Think of that... too often these numbers seem extraneous to us,
but when you can actually put a human face and a name to the statistic, the
number becomes a real person that we can empathize with and advocate for.
You can't empathize with a number. Realizing who the human beings are who
are actually affected serve to remind each of us of the urgency and
importance of focusing on this issue, whether we are speaking to it or
acting in ways that can effect a positive change. We all know of someone who
is without healthcare. How is it that Terry Schiavo was able to capture
national attention and yet these folks, hundreds of them, are dismissed as
unimportant?
These people need us... can you help?
Join us TONIGHT at 6:30pm, in the Lounge of the Unitarian Church as we watch
"Collateral Damage: Bad Medicine in Tennessee" an emotionally gripping film
profiling various people who have lost their health care coverage - for
some, this is an obvious death sentence. The discussion and organized action
will follow the film.
The Handprints Project will also be there so if you haven't given us your
handprint, please do so! We've collected yet another very important
handprint to help advance our cause - come see who it's from. For more info
contact Karen Metcalf at 563-355-0093 or 309-781-6180.
Hope to see you there,
