400,000 + LIVES LOST in DARFUR...
*Hands on project to bring light to Darfur tragedy*
*We are encouraging involvement in this simple project to shine light on the
situation is Darfur..it was written up in River Cities Reader on April
4...details below..great project for kids, teachers and peace lovers of all
ages.*
Nearly three years ago, the world community declared that genocide is taking
place in the Darfur region of Sudan. One year ago, the count was 400,000
lives lost. Still, the genocide continues -- thousands of men, women, and
children dying halfway across the world.
What can you or I do? Eighteen eighth graders in Highland Park, Illinois,
feel they can make a difference. To raise awareness about the genocide, they
are making paper dolls for each of the lives lost.
*You can help them reach their goal of 400,000 by coloring and cutting out
these paper dolls.*
(See below for drop-off sites and local events related to this project.)
You can download more paper dolls at:

Show them and yourselves that we here in the Quad Cities care, too. The
students will be sending the paper dolls to Senator Barack Obama for him to
take to Congress.
For up-to-date information and analysis on the situation in Darfur, you can
go to the Web site of Eric Reeves: http://www.sudanreeves.org. A professor
at Smith college, "he has spent the past eight years working full-time as a
Sudan researcher and analyst, publishing extensively both in the U.S. and
internationally," and has also testified several times before Congress.
